Shaftless Screw Conveyors
A shaftless screw conveyor is exactly what it sounds like, a screw with no center shaft (pipe) to transmit the torque from the motor to the flighting. Because of this, the flighting has to be extremely strong and usually involves using special alloy flighting and very specialty fabrication techniques. The lack of a center shaft also means the shaftless flighting must be support from below along the entire length. This is done using either a steel or plastic trough liner. To keep the screw from riding up, hold downs are used to keep the spiral in place. Shaftless screw conveyors can work in many of the same applications as shafted screw conveyors, but it is best to avoid dry materials since shaftless screws use a liner and a little moisture is needed to prevent excessive wear and noise.
At SCP, we use a very extensive set of calculations to look at every aspect of the shaftless conveyor, including capacity, horsepower requirements, shaft and spiral torque capacity and even how much the spiral will compress from the force to convey the material. Our shaftless screw conveyor design utilizes as many standard screw conveyor parts as possible to keep cost down while maintaining the highest levels of quality and performance. We can provide a complete conveyor, replacement parts for any shaftless screw conveyor or even convert a shafted screw conveyor to shaftless. With all the parts manufactured in the USA, quality and craftsmanship define the main characteristics of the SCP shaftless screw conveyor.
